This Saturday 26th of January, WKMT presents four of its amazing piano teachers in concert. Maestro Avelino Vazquez Groba in duo with Anthony Elward will perform some fantastic works by Arcangelo Corelli. The head of Camberwell, Cristina Guerra and Alvaro Sisti will perform four hands duo pieces by Schumann and Barber. The idea of this concerts is to keep both teachers and students actively linked with music. The concert is structured to add up musical instruments and build up in sound texture.

Avelino Vazquez, our professional harpsichordist, will open the evening. This marvellous and unussual instrument is the perfect voice for the beginning of a concert. Its subtle sonority and its uterly refined quality makes the harpsichord a natural attractor of attention. Rubenstein used to say: “I feel that special secret current between the public and me. I can hold them with one little note in the air, and they will not breathe. That is a great, great moment.” The harpsichord it is just enchanting! Its fine sonority, inspires the audience to sharpen their senses and become ready to appreciate the miracle of an intimate concert.

Arcangelo Corelli mixed with Samel Barber, Why?! 🙂 Well, in spite of the fact that these two composers can’t be more different between each other, they share one very powerful common interest: musicality. Barber’s catchy themes defy the perception we commonly have about contemporary classical music. He writes the the kind of composer who writes music that can leave you humming themes after his music. This particular suite is “joyeuse”. Its general playful spirit is counterweighted by some introspective numbers that without being pathetic they are serious enough to provide a rest from the vibrancy of the surrounding movements.

I strongly reccomend my studentship to come and enjoy this beautiful concert. It is full of musical surprises and will certainly keep everyone interested throughout.
