Learning how to analyse piano sonatas

If only all pianists were aware of the ecomplexety and detailed information contained in a piano sonata….

Knowing how piano sonatas work can prove to be highly beenficial at the time of designing our personal version of them. Pianists in a way are like composers; we don’t choose notes but we select the most suitable dynamics to express our feelings and to communicate through the notes better.

The choice of dynamics and the implementations of rubatos shouldn’t be capriccious. On the contrary, these choices should enhance the intentions of the piece itself and guarantee the correctness of the musical message. We don’t have to forget that we can even sort out technical issues through the use of expressive devices. Now, understanding the meta messages of the music we play becomes fundamental when we are trying to be loyal to the composer’s intentions.

I will be releasing some summaries on how to analyse piano sonatas through my WKMT portal. I strogly reccomend my readers to refer to them when trying to understand classical sonatas. If you are taking piano lessons at WKMT, this reading is a must 🙂 You can check these articles at my WKMT blog.
